Persian Rug Runners: Stairs, Hallways, Kitchens & Beyond

Jessica Allan

Antique and vintage rug runners have been breaking out of their typical role of sitting on the stairs and being placed in hallways in recent years. I've seen a lot of creative uses for runners, but one of my favorites is in the kitchen.    Kitchen islands provide much needed counter space and Instagram is full of pictures of people using Persian rug runners in that open space between the main counter and the island. The Karaja runner pictured below just came in and is the perfect fit for a kitchen setting. On either side of a bed is a great...

From Worn to Mint Condition, New Rugs Listed

Jessica Allan

Lots of new rugs have been listed this month and I have a lot more in the works including a pretty little Feraghan Sarouk with minimal wear. My favorite rug this month is a stunning 3' 10 x 5' 9 Antique Caucasian rug with an all-over boteh design. Quite a variety of colors in this beauty and just the right amount of wear. This little guy was just listed yesterday. It's a pretty, nicely worn example of a tribal Persian rug measuring 3' 4 x 3' 2. Lastly, this little Hamedan rug measuring 2' 8 x 4' 3 has a...

A vintage rug is usually a hand-knotted or handwoven rug made around 40-80 years ago. Technically antique refers to those rugs made 100+ years ago but seeing a rug made in the 1930's being called antique is not out of the ordinary.  So how do you tell the difference between an authentic vintage rug and a newly woven rug labeled vintage? Just like every other collectible it comes with practice. It won't come overnight, but if you find...

Rugs Marching In

Jessica Allan

We have had some very nice old rugs coming into the shop this month and we have many more to list to the site. This photo says it all: Once all of these beauties have been washed and inspected for repairs we will be listing them, most will be done and ready to list at the beginning of next week. Some of my favorites include an old c. 1930's red Melayer with an all-over pattern, a pretty little Afshar with a bright blue field and a nice tribal Qashqai rug.  If you haven't checked the website recently you will find...
