Spring Cleaning
Jessica Allan
It's one of my favorite times of year. The days get longer, the weather gets warmer, and the whole house gets scrubbed down. Now is the time to take a look at your vintage and antique rugs to evaluate what they might need in terms of cleaning. I always recommend washing rugs every two years if they are in medium to low traffic areas, while they should be cleaned every year if they are in a high traffic area such as an entrance way where everyone is coming in with dirt, sand and salt on their shoes all winter long....
What is a Vintage Persian Rug?
Jessica Allan
It seems like every rug I come across now is labeled "vintage" or "antique", so what really is a vintage Persian rug? A vintage rug is usually a hand-knotted or handwoven rug made around 40-80 years ago. Technically antique refers to those rugs made 100+ years ago but seeing a rug made in the 1930's being called antique is not out of the ordinary. So how do you tell the difference between an authentic vintage rug and a newly woven rug labeled vintage? Just like every other collectible it comes with practice. It won't come overnight, but if you find...
Rugs Marching In
Jessica Allan
We have had some very nice old rugs coming into the shop this month and we have many more to list to the site. This photo says it all: Once all of these beauties have been washed and inspected for repairs we will be listing them, most will be done and ready to list at the beginning of next week. Some of my favorites include an old c. 1930's red Melayer with an all-over pattern, a pretty little Afshar with a bright blue field and a nice tribal Qashqai rug. If you haven't checked the website recently you will find...
Vintage Rugs For the Living Room
Jessica Allan

The living room is a perfect spot to showcase a vintage rug. Because most people aren't walking around their living room with boots and heels on, you probably don't have to worry about super heavy traffic. This means you're free to go for that distressed slightly worn rug. If your space does get a lot of traffic you can still use a vintage or antique rug, but one with a tighter weave will be able to withstand the traffic better. For grounding your furniture in a large room, aim for a room-size rug like this 9x12 vintage Chinese Nichols. There...
January Vintage & Antique Rug Feature
Jessica Allan

We have been listing rugs to the shop weekly, and sometimes more often. I will be listing a couple of antique Caucasian rugs this weekend so keep an eye out for those beauties. One of my new favorites is this stunning vintage Melayer (2' 8 x 5'). The design features a unique all-over palmette pattern with curvilinear lines and leaves. Light pink and green highlights really pop from the deep blue field. See more photos > This next rug is a pretty little Persian Lilihan who's field has evenly faded into a soft orange. Measuring 2' 3 x 4' 2...
