Daghestan Rugs

JessBy Jessica Allan

Daghestan rugs are a type of Caucasian rug woven in the northeastern region of the Caucasus. The most common type of Daghestan is the prayer design pictured below. The mihrabs are always six-sided and the field is almost always covered with a diamond trellis pattern holding polychrome flowers. The field color is typically a shade of ivory. Daghestan rugs are highly desirable and collectible.
