Kazak rugs are a type of Caucasian rug and are one of the most famous types of Oriental carpets. They are very popular among collectors and retail customers. Their designs feature bold, contrasting colors and large, simple geometric designs. The field usually includes one or more large geometric medallions.
Their pile is relatively thick compared to other types of Caucasian rugs. They are coarsely woven with Turkish knots, and typically have red or brown weft threads.
Copies of the classic Kazak pattern are woven in Turkey, India and Pakistan. These rugs are often woven on cotton foundations rather than the traditional wool foundation.
